The LSU Tigers pitching staff has had plenty of ups and downs throughout the 2023 campaign, but one bright spot has been the emergence of Lake Charles native and former Barbe Buc Gavin Guidry.

Guidry arrived on the LSU campus as a two-way player, with his main position being a middle infielder. That was until the Tigers began to get short on pitching throughout the season. Guidry did not even throw bullpen sessions or even put in any work as a pitcher until the Tigers began to get thin on arms out of the bullpen.

Guidry worked as a pitcher in high school at Barbe and was able to capture a state championship in his time with the program. During his senior year, he was magnificent as he helped guide the Bucs to the quarterfinals. Guidry sported an 8-0 record on the mound with a 0.16 ERA and 83 strikeouts and 11 walks in 45 innings.

In February, Coach Jay Johnson announced that Gavin would begin to get some work in on the mound, "We've got to do that in due time and build him up correctly. So, we have a good plan for that, also," Head Coach Jay Johnson said. Gavin shortly after became a reliable arm out of the bullpen and then the closer.

During limited action during the season, Guidry is 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA. He pitched a total of thirty games and twenty-one innings and has tallied 32 strikeouts. The Tigers were able to capture the #5 overall seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament which meant they would host the Regional in Baton Rouge. Gavin made two appearances during the Regionals while picking up a save.
