Fish for Free in Louisiana This June Weekend

[KNGT-FM Louisiana] Louisiana is known for its beautiful outdoors. People flock to the Bayou State for the best in hunting and fishing. With so many lakes, rivers, bayous, and marshes in the state, it is heaven for fishermen.

Louisiana has some of the best salt and freshwater fishing in the country, and folks love to hit their favorite spots to wet a line and rip some lips. They especially love doing it during the Summer months when they can take their kids since they are out of school.

Some of the most popular places in Louisiana to freshwater fish include Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Atchafalaya Basin, their favorite private pond, the Calcasieu River, and the Sabine River, to name a few. Saltwater anglers love to fish in the Big Lake area, the Intracoastal Canal, and offshore in the southern part of the state.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has announced that in June, Louisiana residents and visitors will be able to fish for free for an entire weekend without a license.

They are calling it a Free Fishing Weekend, and it will take place on Saturday, June 7th, and Sunday, June 8th, 2025.  During these two days, residents and visitors will NOT be required to possess a Louisiana fishing license to cast their rod.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also said,

—size, season, catch limits, and gear restrictions remain in effect.

: A FREE Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) is still required when possessing species like tuna, billfish, snapper, grouper, cobia, and others.

So get your fishing gear together and get ready to catch yourself a trophy while not having to purchase a Louisiana fishing License this weekend in June 2025.
