Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infections Diseases came out this week to make a massive declaration in the fight against COVID-19. Dr. Fauci told NBC's Today show that by the time we reach April, vaccines will be plentiful across the United States.

Fauci told the show:

“I would imagine by the time we get to April, that will be what I would call, for better wording, ‘open season...Namely, virtually everybody and anybody in any category could start to get vaccinated.”

This is a very different tone towards the COVID vaccine than what we've heard before. Leaders like Dr. Fauci had previously warned that vaccines would be in short supply for much of 2021, and that we may not have full access to vaccines until 2022. But the increases that have been made to the supply chain over just a few weeks have changed that stance drastically.

It's not just access to the vaccine that is really starting to illustrate a new reality. The results of the vaccine is also starting to show in the data.

This week saw the largest drop in COVID case reports since the start of the pandemic. This isn't the same kind of slow decline we've seen before, this is a sudden, and quick decrease. But there has been an overall decline to go along with it. The case counts have been dropping for 4 straight weeks.

Hospitalizations have also been on the decline. Dropping 15% for the last week, with a trend building there as well.
