Early voting begins today for the August 15 ballot in Calcasieu Parish.

The whole parish will be voting on a law enforcement tax renewal, plus Sulphur will be voting on city taxes, and Vinton will be voting on Nibblet’s Bluff tax renewal.

Kim Fontenot with the registrar of voters for Calcasieu Parish told KPLC they are in the process of mailing out over 6,000 early voting ballots to those who requested them. Fontenot said when you receive your ballot in the mail, do not rip off the affidavit on top. It's there to verify you signature, so leave it on.

If you are choosing to vote in person, you are required to wear a mask. Fontenot also said they are sanitizing and cleaning voting machines after every use, and they are following the CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

Early voting will continue until August 15 and will be open from 8:00am to 6:00pm.
