DERIDDER—On July 6, 2011, at approximately 4:30 p.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 112 near Louisiana Highway 1146 in Beauregard Parish that claimed the life of a DeRidder woman.

Investigating troopers report that a 1991 Toyota van driven by 55-year-old Cathy Dove Lambright of DeRidder was traveling west on LA 112 when Lambright lost control of the vehicle she was driving in a curve and crossed the center line. Her vehicle then collided with an oncoming 2007 Isuzu pickup driven by 37-year-old John H. Stiefer of DeRidder.

The vehicle Lambright was driving became engulfed in flames shortly after the crash. Lambright died at the scene and restraint use for her is unknown.

Stiefer attempted to avoid the crash but was unable to. He was transported by air ambulance to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. Stiefer was wearing his seatbelt which likely contributed to his ability to survive the crash.

Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

This is the fourth fatal crash in Beauregard Parish in the last eight days. Troopers are concerned about the situation and encourage everyone to always wear their seatbelt and to drive carefully.

Troop D troopers have investigated 12 fatal crashes in 2011, resulting in 14 fatalities.
