Do you remember when the conspiracy theory that the COVID-19 crisis was going to go away after the election?  Let's go ahead a put that one to rest.  As it turns out, the pandemic is taking a turn for the worst - at least in Louisiana.

On Friday (January 8th) the Sportsman's Paradise nearly broke the record for single day deaths attributed to COVID-19.  According to WDSU, the Louisiana Department of Health reported 105 deaths - the highest since the first wave of the pandemic began.

The all time deadliest day of the crisis was April 14th of last year.  That's when the Bayou State dealt with 129 deaths in a 24 hour period.  When you combine this fact with the news that Louisiana also broke the all time, new case count (6,800+) on Wednesday - it becomes clear that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over.

There are more tough days ahead of us, and with hospitals in the area reporting that they are at maximum capacity - it's more important than ever to wear a mask, avoid crowds, wash your hands (a lot), and stay home if you are sick.
