The Louisiana State Police were called out to a two vehicle accident yesterday on the Calcasieu River Bridge heading into Moss Bluff where one person was killed and three others were injured. LSP reports that one of the people involved in the crash, a thirteen year old girl had serious injuries.

Yesterday evening, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man and injured several others.

Troopers responded to the crash around 7:00 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 171 (north bound) bridge in Calcasieu Parish.  The crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet van, driven by Leyla Austin (B/F 36 yrs) of Lake Charles and a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Megan L. Schexnider (W/F 25 yrs) of Lake Charles.  The Chevrolet was north bound on US Hwy 171 when it became disabled due to a flat tire.  A passenger in the Chevrolet, identified as Vincent D. Austin (B/M 44 yrs) of Lake Charles, exited and was attempting to remove a spare tire from the rear when the north bound Hyundai collided with him and the vehicle.

Leyla Austin was wearing her seatbelt and received moderate injuries.  She was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.  Vincent Austin was pronounced dead.  A thirteen year old girl, inside Leyla Austin’s vehicle, was wearing her seatbelt and received serious injuries.  She was transported to Saint Patrick’s Hospital.

Schexnider was wearing her seatbelt and received moderate injuries.  She was transported to Women and Children’s Hospital.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.
