Did you know that there is a Music Educator Award given out at the Grammys? Did you know the winner gets $10,000? Well there is, they do and it could go to a Sulphur teacher this year!
According to the Lake Charles American Press ... Maplewood Middle Band Director Huber "Mickey" Smith is now a quarter finalist for this year's award. He was nominated by teacher, parents and musicians. Smith is now one of the 22 educators left in the running of the 7000 that were nominated.
You can see Smith perform in a special "From the Grove to the Grammys" concert at the Grove (1211 Ruth Street) in Sulphur starting at three this Saturday.
September will be a big month for Smith. That is when he will learn if he has advanced to the next round.
