The Louisiana State Police is going to be conducting a DWI sobriety checkpoint this Saturday April 27th somewhere in Calcasieu parish. It is an ongoing effort to keep the highways and roadways safe.

Here is the information passed down to us from the Louisiana State Police.

In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop D plans to conduct a DWI checkpoint on Saturday, April 27, 2013, from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish.

Our mission will be to find and remove impaired drivers from the road before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others.

Motorists are asked to remember to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed. Drive sober or get pulled over.

The majority of vehicle occupants who die in crashes in our state are not wearing a seatbelt. Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash.

Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in all seating positions to be properly restrained, day and night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.

To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.

So be careful, designate a driver and have a great weekend!
