Calcasieu Parish schools dismiss for the summer on May 20th. How do you keep the "I'm bored" comments away? Off to the internet I went, and I found several interesting summer camps right here in the Lake area.

City of Lake Charles-- Free Camps 6/6-7/29

Free of charge, eight sites in the Lake area will be offering to keep your kids busy each weekday from 8AM until 5:30PM from June 6 through July 29. That's a pretty sweet deal! Planned activities include trips to SPAR, bowling, visits to Millennium Park, skating, movies, and more. One of the best features is that cell phones and mp3 players are not allowed, so your children won't be able get lost in cyberspace every single day all day! You must fill out and return the registration packet to the site of your choice: Bellard, Columbus Circle, Clifton, College Oaks, Goosport, Henry Heights, Lanza, or McMillen.

City of Lake Charles-- Two Week Camps

Two-week sessions will be offered at the Willie McCullor Landry Community Center beginning on June 6. Each session features a particular activity like bowling, swimming, movies, skating, or simply fun days. These camps are specifically for children between the ages of six and 12, and they cost $100 per child. Daily hours are from 7:30AM until 5:30PM, and all participants must be registered prior to the start of the session. If you'd like to register your child for a particular two-week session, call the center at 491-1498 or the Parks and Rec Department at 491-1280.

    McNeese Leisure Learning All-Day Camp

From heroes to inventions to art to planes, trains, and automobiles, this camp has it all! They even give you the t-shirt (five of them, to be exact). It's a bit pricey, but worth it for the exposure your child gets to so many different experiences he or she may be learning from and not even know they are being educated. The camp begins the Monday after school lets out (May 23) and continues through August 1, so your youngster is occupied for most of the summer. Also, you can choose to send them part of the summer or all summer. It's not an all-or-nothing deal.
