Last year was a season all Saints fans want to forget. The best way to forget last year is to work for a better year this season. The Saints have many improvements before they ever hit the field. They hit the practice field today.

The scene will be a lot different from last years opening practice. Sean Payton is back. We have our second new defensive coordinator in as many years. We have a slew of new defensive players and a rookie who could start the season on the offensive line. This is a lot of change and it will take every practice we can squeeze in to take all of these parts and form them into a cohesive team. The good news is that this is not Sean Payton's first rebuilding effort. His first season with the Saints was very similar and it was a very good year for the black and gold.

The official terminology for these practice sessions is Organized Team Activities. These OTA's are voluntary but any player who hopes to be on the team will attend. New Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will have a lot of decisions to make as he installs his 3-4 defense. There will be a lot of players trying to catch the coaches eyes during the OTA's. The good news is that the 2013 season is coming. Saints fans have big expectations and the coaches and players know that. The road back is open and the Saints have hit the accelerator.
