As if Friday wasn't reason enough to celebrate we've also got another celebrity in the Here's-why-we-are-throwing-a-party mindset. Today is a day we celebrate a flavor that's as much a part of childhood as Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, and Saturday Morning Cartoons. Okay, that's my childhood. Your childhood  might be more like Recess, Doug, Ren and Stimpy, and Rugrats, regardless we both ate peanut butter. We liked peanut butter then and we still like it now.

Today is Peanut Butter Cookie Day: Did you know that peanut butter has been around since the times of the Incas and Aztecs? Those early civilizations used to take roasted peanuts and mash them up into a paste. It was the world's first peanut butter.

The glorious gooey goodness that is peanut butter was also a favorite of Elvis Presley. His peanut butter and 'nanner sandwiches are legendary. If you have tried a peanut butter and bacon sandwich you are truly missing a culinary treat.

But today we celebrate the cookie that peanut butter made famous. It's a basic simple cookie recipe and it's not a real peanut butter cookie unless it has the fork prong criss-cross pattern on the top. There is actually a culinary reason why you should do that.
