City officials are hoping to create a permanent vacancy in the old Harrah’s hotel on the lakefront in Lake Charles, and they’ll be doubling down on their final decision later this month.

The shuttered hotel was donated to the City of Lake Charles earlier this year by Pinnacle, and the entertainment company will likely bear the expense of tearing the old structure down.

But it’s not a done deal. If you’re looking for a little lakefront property – around four acres or so – you can still

KPLC-TV 7 quoted Councilman Marshall Simien as saying the city wants to keep the hotel’s parking garage:

"Garages are worth their weight in gold," said Simien. "They are expensive and are not easy to build. It would be in our best interest to keep the garage."

Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach said the garage is still in good shape and could be repaired. An official vote on the resolution to demolish the hotel will be made at the council's next regular meeting on Wednesday, July 20.
