Lake Charles, La. —

The 2011 Spring Series of Movies Under the Stars returns to Prien Lake Park beginning Friday, April 8, and continues every Friday for the remainder of the month.

This spring, Movies Under the Stars is pleased to announce an entire series for children of all ages and even grown-ups who are still “young-at-heart.” For the first time since the Police Jury has been presenting Movies Under the Stars, each event will present a film made by Walt Disney!

The selection process for this series was difficult due to Disney’s large catalog of titles spanning nearly 75 years.

•April 8– Opening night features the first animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award in the “Best Picture” category, “Beauty and the Beast.”

•April 15– Week two features a true story of a horse owner’s unending courage to overcome near-impossible odds in bringing her stallion to become one of the greatest race horses of all time, “Secretariat.”

•April 22- Pixar films have become a staple with Disney for more than 15 years now, and the third week of the series features one of their popular films that will make you scream with laughter, “Monsters, Inc.”

•April 29- Movies Under the Stars would be remiss to ignore a true Disney classic film. The fourth and final week of the Spring series features the timeless motion picture, “Mary Poppins.”

Movies Under the Stars takes place at Prien Lake Park, located at 3700 West Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles. Each movie begins at 7p.m. Admission is free to the public.

Patrons are allowed to bring their own food or they can purchase tasty items on-site. Seating is not provided, so patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

This is the third year “Movies Under the Stars” has been presented to the community by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.

I am glad to see that they are bringing this back again.  Enjoy!!!
