McNeese’s Peterson And LSU’s Mahtook Drafted To Majors
It was a good day for Louisiana baseball yesterday as two high profile players from LSU and McNeese State were drafted in the top 60 of the Major League Baseball Draft.
McNeese State shortstop Jace Peterson was the 58th player taken in the Major League baseball draft Monday.
He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the compensation A round between the first and second rounds.
Peterson was the second player from the state to be drafted, the first being Mikie Mahtook of LSU who was the 31st player, being drafted by Tampa.
The McNeese standout is the highest Cowboy draft selection since pitcher Jacob Marceaux was picked in the first round by the Florida Marlins in the 2005 draft, the 29th player selected.
During the past season Peterson batted .335 for the Cowboys and led them in runs scored with 67, in doubles with 8 (led the conference in both) and in stolen bases with 30. He completed his collegiate career with a school record 78 stolen bases.
