The McNeese Womens Softball team season has been a good one and an example of that is that they have qualified for the SLC Tournament.

McNeese softball (29-27, 18-12 SLC) will look to defend its Southland Conference Tournament title and repeat history as the Cowgirls enter this week's Southland Conference Tournament in Huntsville, Texas which begins Thursday. McNeese won the tournament and earned the league's NCAA bid last year, also as the fourth seed.

McNeese is making will make its 22nd overall Southland Conference Tournament appearance and seventh consecutive. The Cowgirls have been to the tournament 12 of the last 13 years and 14 of the last 16.

McNeese has missed only two Southland Conference Tournaments (1998, 2004), have played in five tournament championship games (1983, 1999, 2005, 2009, 2010), and have won three tournament titles (1983, 2005, 2010) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times (1994, 2005, 2010).

The Cowgirls will enter the tournament on a seven game winning streak and have won 16 of their last 23 games. McNeese is also one win shy of its third consecutive 30 win season under third year head coach Natalie Poole. Poole has guided the Cowgirls to three straight tournament appearances and have played in the last two championship games.

McNeese will face fifth seed UTSA (27-25, 17-13 SLC) at 11 a.m. Thursday in the opening game of the tournament. The Cowgirls won two of three games against the Roadrunners during the regular in Lake Charles. A victory by the Cowgirls would advance them to face regular season champion and top seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon. A loss will have the Cowgirls playing at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

All tournament games will be web streamed. Live stats will also be available on southland.org and the championship game will air on the Southland Conference Television Network (Suddenlink Ch. 14 in Lake Charles). Game broadcast will be called by Doug Anderson and Chris Mycoskie, the Director of Television and Electronic Media, will handle play-by-play.

Adult reserved all-tournament tickets are available for $20 and a general admission all-tournament ticket is available for $15. Tickets will also be available for each day of the tournament. A single day pass in reserved seating is $10 and a single day pass for general admission is $7.
