The Louisiana State Police is going to be conducting a DWI sobriety checkpoint this Saturday February 8th somewhere in Jeff Davis Parish parish. It is an ongoing effort to keep the highways and roadways safe.

Here is the information passed down to us from the Louisiana State Police.

In an effort to increase seatbelt usage and combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop D plans to conduct a seatbelt compliance and DWI checkpoint on Saturday, February 8, 2014, from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Jefferson Davis Parish.  Our mission will be to ticket vehicle occupants who are not properly restrained or who choose not to properly restrain children in the vehicle as well as to remove impaired drivers from the road before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others.

The majority of vehicle occupants who die in crashes in our state are not wearing a seatbelt.  Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash.
