In a effort to keep kids safe while you travel on the roadways and highways, the Louisiana State Police is putting on an event geared toward checking your child safety seats or car seats to make sure they are safe for your kids to ride in your vehicle.

The event will take place at 3415 Gerstner Memorial Boulevard (LA Highway 14 near I-210) in Lake Charles in the parking lot of Walmart.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children. Louisiana state law requires all vehicle occupants, including children, to be properly restrained in all seating positions day and night.  Many injuries and deaths can be prevented by properly using child safety seats.

On Saturday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force will hold a free child safety seat event in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter located at 3415 Gerstner Memorial Boulevard (LA Highway 14 near I-210) in Lake Charles.  Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to assist with the proper installation of child safety seats.

While supplies last, free booster seats will be given to caregivers for children meeting the following criteria:

Child must weigh between 40 and 100 pounds

Child must be less than 4 feet 9 inches tall

Child must be present

Limit one seat per child

Participating agencies include Louisiana State Police Troop D, Lake Charles Fire Department, Ward 1 Fire Department (Moss Bluff) , and the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
