In a effort to keep kids safe while you travel on the roadways and highways, the Louisiana State Police is putting on an event geared toward checking your child safety seats or car seats to make sure they are safe for your kids to ride in your vehicle.

The event is free and will be held at Pinederosa Park located at 2901 Westwood Road in Westlake this Saturday.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children. Louisiana state law requires all vehicle occupants, including children, to be properly restrained in all seating positions day and night.  Many injuries and deaths can be prevented by properly using child safety seats.

On Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force will hold a free child safety seat event at Pinederosa Park located at 2901 Westwood Road (LA Highway 378) in Westlake.  This service is provided in conjunction with Phillips 66 Family Safety Day.  Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to assist with the proper installation of child safety seats.

While supplies last, free booster seats will be given to caregivers for children meeting the following criteria:

Child MUST weigh between 40 and 100 pounds
Child MUST be less than 4 feet 9 inches tall
Child MUST be present
Only ONE seat per child
