The Louisiana State Police is going to be conducting a DWI sobriety checkpoint this tonight April 19th somewhere in Calcasieu parish. It is an ongoing effort to keep the highways and roadways safe.

Here is the information passed down to us from the Louisiana State Police.

In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area as well as to increase seatbelt usage, Louisiana State Police Troop D plans to conduct a DWI and seatbelt compliance checkpoint on Friday, April 19, 2013, from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish.

Motorists are asked to remember to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed.  Drive sober or get pulled over.

The majority of vehicle occupants who die in crashes in our state are not wearing a seatbelt.  Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash.

Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in all seating positions to be properly restrained, day and night.  Buckle up Louisiana.  Every trip.  Every time.

To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.

So be careful, designate a driver and have a great weekend!
