So why are we all fussing about the Keystone Pipeline? Could the political wrangling be all about portraying an oil friendly image and less about creating jobs in Louisiana?

According to NPR the pipeline would result in about 42,000 jobs while being constructed and 35 permanent jobs after it is built. The funny thing is the pipeline would not even pass through Louisiana. So why are Cassidy and Landrieu all about this project? Could it simply be that they are both trying to appear oil industry friendly? Sure some of those jobs could be filled by people from Louisiana. Sure Louisiana has a ton of oil based industry; but it would seem that the congressmen behind the house and senate bills would be from states that would directly benefit from the pipeline. Is it simply Louisiana political grandstanding as usual?
