Week six has arrived in high school football. That means that district play is underway all over the state. Some districts have already developed some interesting championship races, while others are beginning that journey this week.

In District 4-1A, there is an interesting race coming along that includes a handful of teams from the Southwest Louisiana area. The Rainbow Warriors of Hamilton Christian are off to a fantastic start in district play. Two weeks ago, the Warriors went down to South Cameron and handed them a 39-7 defeat before knocking off the undefeated Basile Bearcats 22-8 last week at home giving them an early 2-0 mark in district play and are 4-1 overall for the season.

This week, another big test awaits Hamilton Christian. They will have a chance to hand another team their first loss for the second week in a row when they travel to take on the undefeated East Beauregard Trojans. The Trojans have also posted a 2-0 mark in district play. In the district opener, East Beauregard survived a road game by squeaking out a 14-12 win at Oberlin. Last week, they returned home to demlolishing Merryville 38-0.

East Beauregard has Colby LaFauci caryying the load for them this season. He has accumulated 463 rushing yards along with two touchdowns. He averages 5.4 yards per carry and 92 yards per game. Hamilton Christian also has a running back who can get it done. Warriors running back Kaylon Leblanc has averaged nearly six yard per carry and scored three times this season. Both defenses will be looking to shut down the opposing run game production early and often. The East Beauregard defense gives up 7.8 points a game while Hamilton Christian has held all of their opponents to under twenty points this season.

This all leads to the big match-up this week in Deridder. With having only one other team undefeated in district play (Elton), this is a pivotal game for whoever want's to be in the drivers seat of District because both Hamilton Christian and East Beauregard have upcoming dates with the Indians of Elton. With a loss in this game, either team will fall back in the standings and will no longer have control of their own destiny.
