Everyone knows that I am a huge classic country fan, so when I discovered this today, I just felt like I needed to pass it along to you. On this day in 1959, the legendary George Jones scored his first number one hit with the iconic song "White Lightning".

You may not know this, but that song was written by J. P. Richardson, who you may know as "The Big Bopper" - a huge pop artist who was killed in a plane crash that also claimed the lives of Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly. George got ahold of the song and released tit in February of 1959.

A funny story is that George Jones revealed in his autobiography released in 1997 that it took over 80 takes to record the song, due to the fact that Jones was heavily under the influence of alcohol.

Here is George Jones performing "White Lightning" in 1959.
