This morning around 6:00 a.m. the Louisiana State Police were called to Highway 90 in Sulphur in reference to a three vehicle crash.

Sgt. James Anderson with the State Police says:

On January 7, 2015, at 5:55 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 90 about 1½ miles east of Sulphur that claimed the life of a Sulphur man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by 53-year-old Dallas R. McDonald, Sr. of Sulphur was traveling west on U.S. 90 when the vehicle he was driving crossed the centerline and struck a 2000 Toyota Tacoma driven by 66-year-old Joseph L. Machulski of Sulphur head-on. The force of the collision caused the Nissan to spin around and strike a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 41-year-old Mark A. Benoit of Sulphur.

McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office.  Machulski was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.   Benoit was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.  All occupants were wearing a seat belt.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from the drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.  The crash remains under investigation.
