CPSO Arrests Man For 2nd Degree Murder In Death Of 18 mo. Old Baby

A sad story coming from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office today.  An 18th Month old child is dead at the hands of the baby's mothers boyfriend.

Monday, June 27, the mother of an 18 month old baby boy and the mother’s boyfriend, Efrem F.“Jay” Ogwin, Jr., 24, 1609 3^rd St., Apt. B, Lake Charles, brought the baby into Moss Regional.  While at the hospital, the baby coded and was pronounced dead.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the death.  After the coroner, Dr. Terry Welke, performed an autopsy, he ruled the death a homicide due to the injuries to the baby.

After questioning Ogwin today, he was arrested, booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 2^nd degree murder.  Ogwin is on parole for robbery and distribution of Xanax until September 2013.  He was released from jail in December 2010.
