The tropics are, no doubt, active right now. As I'm writing this, the National Hurricane Center is watching three systems in the Atlantic: Hurricane Matthew, Hurricane Nicole, and a tropical wave. When you look at the forecast models, you can't help but wonder, "Could Matthew and Nicole combine to form one big storm?"

In a word, no. It's something meteorologists call "The Fujiwhara Effect."

Hurricane Matthew has already proven devastating and deadly in the Caribbean. People living along the southeast coast of the United States are watching his trek anxiously, as they should be.

We will continue to keep you updated on Matthew's developments. For now, Nicole doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone. Hopefully, she will just go away.
