The Memorial Day holiday is Monday May 30 and in an effort to save lives, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.  Drivers in Calcasieu Parish and across the state should be mindful that the event will be over the span of 14 days.  Funding for the campaign is being provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and began today, May 23, through June 5, 2016.

“Click It or Ticket” was created in an effort to increase seat belt use and ultimately save lives.  With Memorial Day around the corner now is as good a time as any, to implement this campaign.   Drivers can look for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office to have increased checkpoints and increased officers on the road.  They will be looking to nail people not wearing seat belts, so don't let this be you.

Calcasieu Sheriff, Tony Mancuso, explained there is a great need for “Click It or Ticket” in the area citing good and bad statistics about Louisiana drivers.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, revealed that while 88% of occupants buckled up in 2015, almost 50% of occupants of fatal crashes nationwide are not restrained. Mancuso said, "This fact highlights the need for increased enforcement and awareness of seat belt use.”

Buckle and be safe Louisiana!
