Nic Hunter's inauguration ceremony is Saturday. But before he is sworn in as the next mayor of Lake Charles, he and his wife are hosting a celebration that will also help animals in need of rescue.

On Wednesday evening, Hunter is hosting a semi-formal inaugural celebration at the Historic Calcasieu Marine Bank Building on Ryan Street. Tickets are $25 and proceeds will be donated to groups that help animal rescue groups in Southwest Louisiana. You can get tickets to the event online or in person at Harlequin Steakhouse on W. College Street.

He and his wife told the American Press they have three rescue dogs (see photo below) and wanted to assist a charity near to their hearts.

The former Calcasieu Parish Police Juror has been busy over the last few months learning about city government and assessing the needs of the community with the help of a transition team. Hunter has also been meeting with members of each governmental department to address ways to improve efficiency and tackle issues he believes are important to residents of Lake Charles.

The 33-year-old succeeds Randy Roach who stepping down after serving in the position for 17 years.

Hunter and other members of the Lake Charles City Council will be sworn in on Saturday at 2PM at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
