The holiday season is here and tonight the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) will be conducting two separate DWI and Seat Belt checkpoints this week starting tonight at undisclosed location in the parish.

With the Thanksgiving holiday season upon us, many people are off for the next four days and tonight is tapped as one of the biggest nights of the year for people to get out there and have some fun.

But be careful when having too many drinks.  Always designate a driver and be safe. CPSO spokesman Kim Myers says:

In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting two combination DWI and seatbelt checkpoints at two separate undisclosed locations in the parish.

The first checkpoint will take place on Wednesday, November 23 and the second one on Saturday, November 26.

Both of these checkpoints will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, which has been proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Be safe!
