The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is going to be conducting a DWI sobriety checkpoint this Friday night May 31st somewhere in the parish. It is an ongoing effort to keep the highways and roadways safe.

Here is the information passed down to us from the Calcasieu parish Sheriff's Office.

In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a DWI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish on Friday, May 31.

This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, which has been proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted. The checkpoint will also target people who are not wearing their seatbelt.

Lake Charles Police Department, Louisiana State Police-Troop D, and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office will also be participating at the checkpoint.  This checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
