UPDATE: Friday, June 1, 2018, 5:00 p.m. - The precautionary boil water advisory issued on Thursday, May 31, has been lifted.

"The water main break causing the advisory has been repaired and full pressure has been restored to the area. Extensive flushing was performed and bacteriological samples taken from the affected areas were negative for any contamination", said a City of Lake Charles media release.

The City of Lake Charles Water Division has issued a precautionary boil advisory for the area of Ryan Street between Sale Road and East and West Claude Streets", said a media release. There was a break in a 6-inch water main, which has caused a decrease in water pressure below the required level.

The break is currently being repaired. Water will be restored within a few hours, but the boil advisory is estimated to continue through the end of the week. Once the Louisiana Department of Health gives the ok, then the boil advisory will be lifted. Water samples must be taken from the water supply system and deemed safe before the advisory ends.

"It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it, including making ice, brushing teeth, using it for food preparation or rinsing foods by boiling the water for one full minute in a clean container. The recommended one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The advisory does not affect showering or bathing."
