The Lake Charles Police Department responded to a shooting on Wednesday, Jully 11, at 12:41 p.m., after a 911 call brought officers out to the intersection of Shattuck Street and O'Brien Street. A 12-year-old boy had been shot and taken to a local hospital, where he was reportedly in stable condition.

The incident was first reported as a drive-by, but witness statements proved that never happened and that the boy was shot due to someone else's negligence.

Christopher James Williams was later identified as the shooting suspect. Police located him at a residence at 1614 Pine Street, where a perimeter was set up around the residence by patrol officers and SWAT operators, said a media release. Williams, the suspect, was called out by a police negotiator over a police vehicle public address system. He reportedly came out and was "taken into custody without incident."

Williams told investigators the shooting was an accident, and that he ran from the scene. The victim corroborated his statement, said the media release.

Christopher James Williams was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, and charged with aggravated 2nd-degree battery and negligent injury. His bond is set at $37,000.
