The third leg of the triple crown is today and history could be made!  American Pharoah and jockey Victor Espinoza will attempt to become the 12th Triple Crown winner and first since Affirmed in 1978 when he runs today in the 147th running of the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park.

Of course everyone thinks Secretariat did it last since it was highly publicized and put up on the big screen when the horses story was made into a movie a few years back.

The triple crown of racing is for Thoroughbreds and consists of three separate races.  First is the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course and now today the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park.

American Pharoah won the Kentucky Derby by one length but then turned around and blew away the competition at the Preakness winning by an impressive seven lengths!  Now he will look to make history today!

Television coverage for the Belmont stakes begins today at 3:30 p.m. on NBC.
